Dear visitor, this Fuerteventura Holiday Guide and Excursion Planner provides you with all the interesting information about your holiday destination Fuerteventura.
It is comprehensive, compact and with lots of pictures, videos and trip suggestions to make the best out of your holiday on Fuerteventura. Welcome to Fuerteventura - it will surprise you!
Fuerteventura has plenty of beaches with miles of golden sand, marvellous bays with shades of blue and turqouise, impressive geological formations and many places of cultural or natural interest to visit. Besides the traditional watersports, there are also many other sport activities to do like snorkelling, scuba diving or climbing.
And welcome to our website “Info-Fuerteventura”, a holiday and excursion guide that will offer you the most important info in a pleasant and condensed manner and that – we hope – will become your personal trip advisor on where to go on this island for the best experiences in restaurants, bars, shops, excursions, nightlife, sports, etc.
Our Fuerteventura Guide aims to offer useful information about the top-10-locations, the best beaches, what-to-do and what-to-see during your holiday on Fuerteventura. Because the website contains printable Fuerteventura and City Maps, you can use them as a practical excursion planner, so you don't miss out on the Fuerteventura favourites.
PS.: we have chosen a picture of a goat as introduction picture to our General Travel Guide, because this animal has been so important in the development of human activities on Fuerteventura. Since about 1.500 B.C., the first settlers have visited Fuerteventura and brought with them some goats as a survival kit: milk, cheese, meat, cloths, tools and utensils. We cannot be grateful enough to these simple but dear animals.

Corralejo: the name means “small corral” where livestock was kept. Corralejo is an ancient fishing village with a modernised town centre and was the first touristic place on Fuerteventura to be developed. It still is one of the busiest tourist areas on the island, during the day and du-ring the night. You may split Corralejo into 3 main areas: the north with its old town centre and closest to the harbour, the centre that has been built during the 70’ties and the south which has been developed after 2000. The Old Town is a pedestrian area and the Music Square, Calle La Iglesia and Muelle Chico are host to many bars and restaurants. In the centre of the town you have the main street with a handful of short side streets which contain many shops, cosy bars and fine restaurants. Close to the Centre of Corralejo you have two small beaches which are ideal for children. In the South of Corralejo there are beautiful beaches with plenty of sports and leisure possibilities. The dunes (a national park) are world famous and are one of the must-see items of Fuerteventura. The island of Lobos can be visited to enjoy nature, tranquillity and the small beach.

Puerto del Rosario: For shopping there is of course LAS ROTONDAS, the commercial centre with underground parking. But if you prefer to do window shopping in the street, then we suggest to go strolling in the Avda 1er de Mayo and Avda Secundino Alonso. Here you will find a mixture of shops, bars and restaurants. Spirit wishes you an interesting stay in Puerto del Rosario!

Costa Calma: has been built from scratch. The first hotel was built in 1977, but the real boom started only in 1984, after completion of the main road through the resort. Costa Calma has different “centres” which are surrounding individual Shopping Centres and all of them have their particular atmosphere. In almost each of them you can find a good choice of restaurants, bars and shops. Thanks to effective water recycling, the resort has become a green area where it is nice to stroll through. A fine walk (2,5h one-way) goes from Costa Calma to La Pared and starts close to the petrol station. And at low tide you can walk on the beach from Costa Calma to Jandía. Every Sunday and Friday is “market day” at the North entrance of the village. Most famous is the area for its spectacular beaches and the yearly surfing contests at the Playa de Sotavento.

Use of Tour Planner: We have classified the items to be visited into 3 categories:
- City sightseeing (just stroll around in the city/village and absorb the atmosphere),
- Culture (visit locations that offer information about culture & history of the island) and
- Nature (locations that will show you representative views about nature & geography of the island).
Suggestions are presented in function of the area where you have your accommodation (North, Centre, South) and in function of the amount of days that you want to spend for your excursion (from 1 to more than 6 days). If you also want to make tours outside your area, then preferentially pick those items that are in red unless you specifically want to go for a black item. All of them will give satisfaction.
Legend: Items in red are those that are regarded to be most representative for Fuerteventura. Items in black are interesting too, but of somewhat lesser priority if you have to make a choice. The numbers behind the items are the estimated minimum time in hours to spend at that location to fully enjoy the place. Please note that these times do not include the time to drive to this place, as everybody has his own pace. After all, you are on holiday, aren't you?
Extra Info: please always take with you on your trip: min. 1,5l still water/person, sun cream min. factor 30, cap or hat, camera, good shoes. When you drive on the roads around Betancuria, you may take some pictures of the squirrels that you will encounter on the parking lots, but please don't feed them.
We wish you a nice and safe journey around Fuerteventura.

Fuerteventura is about 20 million years old and is the oldest formation of all Canary Islands. It is geographically twinned with Lanzarote as both are on the same plateau with only 40-50 metres of sea depth between them.
Fuerteventura, like all other Canary Islands, is of volcanic origin. The first eruptions were well below sea level and the formations were subsequently pushed up. These early eruptions show the typical gentle slopes of the Betancuria Massif. Later eruptions – above sea level – have the traditional “volcano-like” shapes. The latest eruption on Fuerteventura was in what is now La Oliva, about 5.000 years ago.
The first inhabitants of Fuerteventura are believed to be of North African origin but, according to recent genetic research, there were several immigrations of at least three types of human races. Significant exploration of the island began in the 15th century with Jean de Bethancourt and Gadifer de la Salle.
Fuerteventura – at that time only the North – was developed for tourism as from the early 1970´s. The South followed about 10 years later.
